Israel is celebrating its 74th Independence Day, and you don't have to travel the world for the party.
A weekend event is bringing you “A Taste of Israel” in Tulsa. It's an Israeli market experience with live music, food, and activities. The Jewish Federation of Tulsa is hosting an Israeli experiential market or a "shuk." That means at each booth, you can make or taste something.
Activities include digging, making jewelry, planting, decorating a pot, and making a dead sea salt scrub. You can also try a variety of traditional food like falafel, Israeli salad, baklava, and hummus. There will be Israeli snacks and candies to try, along with fresh-squeezed orange juice and spices.
Chen Shoval is the Israeli Emissary to Tulsa. She moved with her family two years ago during the pandemic. She hopes this will allow people to experience Israel without religion, politics, or history, and just enjoy the celebration.
"But Israel has much more to offer as culture. This is a very advanced country with amazing cuisine and just fun culture that we want to bring to the people of Tulsa to have and to learn from,” Shoval said.
The event is Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. It's free to attend and food is available for purchase.
