The arctic blast is coming just in time for the Tulsa Disc Sports Association’s "Ice Bowl," which raises money for the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
Kyle Gibson with TDSA and Claudia Butler with the Food Bank joined us Wednesday morning with more information.
This is the 29th year for the Ice Bowl and Tulsans show up big time.
"We host this annually, every January, and we've been doing that since 1995. Since 2011, we've been able to raise over $100,000. We have great turn outs. We rank third nationally, out of an average 220 cities. And then we rank eighth nationally in fundraising. So not only do we have a great turn out, but we have really supportive, charitable people in the community," Gibson said.
"We're so grateful for partnerships like this. Like (Gibson) said, you've been raising money for the Food Bank since 2011, so thank you for that. We appreciate it. We said that it's going to be cold coming up, but hunger doesn't take a holiday. Hunger doesn't stop when it's cold, doesn't stop when it's hot. We're here fighting hunger every day," Butler said.
This Ice Bowl is Saturday, Jan. 13 and Sunday, Jan. 14 at Chandler Park. All score cards must be turned in by 4 p.m. each day.
You don't have to play to donate to the Food Bank. CLICK HERE to learn more about donating.
