For the first time in decades, the Collinsville Historical Society is working to preserve the city's history for the next generation.
The Collinsville Historical Society was first formed in 1975 to save the old Santa Fe Depot, but it's been inactive for decades.
Organizers said they're encouraging people of all ages to get involved in the relaunch.
Doctor Linda Wilson said the goal is not just about preserving the past, but also sharing stories from Collinsville residents, and preserving them for the future.
"We've been working with oral history to collect oral stories and share those on the City website. And so we hope to not only be a team of two, but have other people go out and do that as well. Because if you think about it, every family has a story. And most people only get one hometown in their life. But some people will adopt a hometown, so they have stories about Collinsville that are much more recent than our stories are," Wilson said.
She said anyone interested in helping is invited to attend their meetings.
