A man who grew up in Broken Arrow is being called a hero after he helped find one of the suspects in the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade shooting.

Cell phone video shows the suspect being tackled by people before police arrived.

Tony Janssens, who lives in Kansas City now, said he was about 10 feet away from where the shooting happened. And he didn’t hesitate to help.

Video shows Janssens running after the suspect, yelling at people in the crowd to tackle the suspect.

He said he saw a group of guys who he said were acting weird.

He said they were wearing big jackets on a nice day, passing around a backpack, and running from law enforcement.

Janssens said that’s when he knew something was wrong.

“One of the guys turns around and he's got basically a gunshot wound in his jaw and it's kind of hanging off,” said Janssens.

Other witnesses said they thought the gunshots were fireworks.

But Janssens said he knew immediately what was happening, because he served in the Navy and trained for active shooters.

"It just turned on, the training that I've had,” said Janssens. “Just to keep a level head, just realize what's going on at first.”

He said he is still trying to process everything that happened.

"I'm just honestly grateful to be here,” said Janssens. “I felt like I had a guardian angel that day. If I had been walking 10 steps faster, I could have been right in the line of bullet fire. I probably wouldn't be here.”

He’s thankful for the Good Samaritans who helped and hopes to meet up with them again someday.

Janssens was also glad law enforcement acted so quickly.

"I think after I was settling down and seeing the severity of the situation when they were in handcuffs and I look over and see the ARs kind of sitting there up against the wall and the bag that he had, and he had a really big magazine in it, an extended magazine. And I was just like, 'man, we were so lucky that it just turned out to what it was,'" said Janssens.

Janssens said he recommends people always be aware of what’s going on around them, no matter where they might be.
